I was recently asked, “Does employee engagement even matter anymore?”. It struck a chord with me and I am compelled to addressing this question in a series of postings as it is such a rich topic of conversation.
The key word here is “engagement”. For me, employee engagement is an emotional commitment of how organizations work with their employees to achieve mission critical goals on a daily, weekly monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. This doesn’t just happen organically . One must realize that without a quality workforce an organization is quite limited to achieving any organizational mission or leadership vision. Thus, I would firmly argue that understanding your human capitals opinion, thoughts, feelings and more on a continuous basis is vital to organizational success. Getting the most out of human capital starts with educating yourself (leadership) and then educating them (employee). Start off with the simple tactic of opinion polls and engagement surveys.
