3 Reasons to Have a Qualified Coach
Coaching is such an important aspect of improving employees capabilities, skills and more. Today, I will briefly discuss how coaching can make an impact in your organization.
What is a Coach?
A coach is a person who guides and facilitates your personal growth potential. They are willing to invest finite resources of time and effort to believe in you. A coach’s role will shift depending on their clients’ needs to be a friend, facilitator, mentor, or counselor. Coaches shifting roles are necessary to achieve their full purpose which is to empower you.
So, Why Have a Coach…
First, coaches provide you with a measuring stick of accountability. This accountably comes with someone outside of your work place or circle of influence monitoring your choices. Second, having a coach can assist in goal setting. Short and long term goals lead to focus on the process rather than the outcome. This idea is quoted continually as the blueprint for goal achievement which leads to success. Third, a coach is usually in your corner and on your side against everyone else. Although a coach is unlikely to be the “yes person” in your life, it is comforting to know at least one person is on your team.
Why Don’t You Have a Coach?
So, if coaches are so great (a superpower), why doesn’t everyone already have a coach? Coaches are readily accepted and essential in only some industries such as sports. The concept of being led by a team leader is easy to connect through physical exertion. We can look back in history through generations of wars fought led by generals or countries ruled by kings. In modern day, we do not have constant life and death scenarios and therefore our coaching and leadership needs to be reconfirmed as important. The coach of today is not leading clients into physical battles however they are equally valuable as any other time in history. The true importance of today’s coach is to empower you.
